The Director of Food Procurement will apply their strong understanding of the food supply chain to develop and implement successful procurement strategies that will grow our national food donor network and deliver supply assurance of rescued product to our community partners. This position will ensure procurement strategies, processes, and program executions are fully integrated to support the organization’s business plans and core objectives. This role will establish national business development plans, develop strategic partnerships, continuously drive improved donor engagement levels, and oversee the management of the Food Procurement department, enabling the team to meet and exceed annual foodraising targets for the organization.

You Will:

  • Lead the Food Procurement department and develop and implement long and short-term foodraising strategies, objectives, and KPIs across the food supply chain designed to maximize business growth and opportunities for Second Harvest.
  • Research and identify new sources of food and actively recruit new donors with a goal to increase the quantity, quality, and efficiency of food donations.
  • Ensure donor engagement and supply assurance of rescued food for our agency network from across the food supply chain through in-house fleet and warehouse operations, national third-party logistics, and the Second Harvest Food Rescue App platform.
  • Manage staff, establishing a positive team dynamic and monitoring performance and development goals; mentor success, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, evaluate results, and conduct annual performance reviews.
  • Analyze data and trends on rescued food, build on partnership success, and identify opportunities for improvement and collaboration.
  • Develop and maintain an annual budget and monitor expenditures against the approved budget.
  • Work with Development and Marketing & Communications divisions to develop and implement a food donor retention plan that celebrates and retains food donors by ensuring appropriate stewardship and recognition.
  • Deliver presentations and participate in speaking engagements with businesses with the goal of increasing food donor acquisition and retention; track outreach activities, record touchpoints, and collect donor feedback.
  • Implement ongoing quality and efficiency improvements.
  • Create various reports on food procurement as requested.
  • Attend food industry trade shows/conferences and network with potential corporate partners.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned to support the overall goals of the organization.

  • Extensive experience within the food industry with demonstrated success in sourcing, procurement, or sales preferred. Minimum 5 years of demonstrated success in a leadership role.
  • Experience working or volunteering in the non-profit sector is an asset.
  • Able to travel across Canada and have a Valid Class G driver’s license (mileage compensated).
  • *Bilingualism is an asset.
